Learn The Process

Every BSBEE Designs piece begins with a story — a moment observed in nature, a photograph captured in time, or a stone whose natural form suggests a narrative. Bruce Bauer creates one-of-a-kind wearable sculptures guided by rare and ethically sourced materials, allowing each piece to evolve through interpretation and handcraft. No two works are ever identical.

1 — Vision & Consultation

Begin with a Custom Inquiry describing your inspiration, preferred themes, and desired color direction. Please provide as much detail as possible so Bruce can fully understand your vision. He personally reviews each request and may follow up by email or phone to discuss artistic direction, material availability, feasibility, and timeline. This initial conversation is essential for defining the scope of the work and providing an accurate quote for your commission.

2 — Material & Design Development

Each commission begins with stone. Clients may purchase available pieces from the Shop, or reference any Shop or Signature Work to commission a similar design. Materials may be reselected from the Material Palette, allowing Bruce to recreate the piece with different rare and ethically sourced stones while preserving its original spirit.

3 — Sculpting & Completion

Each piece is hand-carved and constructed with meticulous precision, guided by the natural character of the chosen stone and materials. Once complete, the commission is photographed, documented, and delivered as a finished one-of-a-kind original. It becomes part of Bruce Bauer’s ongoing body of work, representing a unique collaboration between artist, material, and collector.

Each commission begins with a conversation.

Share your inspiration, preferred materials, any signature or current pieces that you would like to reference from to begin the process. Rare stones are limited and not mass-produced, and timeline depends on material availability and sculptural complexity, with most commissions requiring several weeks to complete. Previously completed works cannot typically be altered due to structural integrity, and all custom commissions are final.
