Conjuror's Fan

$2,800.00

This necklace was designed based on the Fan shaped Rutilated Quartz fancy cut by Munsteiner (with backcuts creating the appearance of bubbles in the fan. Upon seeing the gem, I started with the idea of a hand holding the fan, but how did the hand get there. I carved the profile of a Conjuror (magician) in warthog tusk, with braided 18K and silver hair, and blowing bubbles of silver and crystal. The “bubbles” magically create a hand with golden fingernail, holding the fan with its bubbles. The piece hangs from a velvet cord with silver and gold highlights

To date this pendant is one of my most imaginative Art Nouveau inspired pieces. Its origin comes from the fan shaped Rutilated Quartz piece cut by the Munsteiner family. The specialty cut included the reverse round cuts which create a bubble like appearance viewed from the front. On first view, I knew that my design should include a hand “holding the fan”, but the “story” had to provide the means by which the hand got there. It all came together with the creation of the carved warthog face of the woman Conjuror blowing bubbles of crystal and silver, one of which then creates the hand holding the fan with the bubbles. The Conjuror’s hair was created in braided 18K gold and silver. The piece hangs from a velvet cord with mountings of silver and gold
